Just watched a bit of Julie and Julia, great film.  Seemed a bit close to home.  It is a huge challenge to dedicate a year of your life to a project. But its rewarding and exciting too.

1 farm attack a day since Zuma address'

Johannesburg - There has been about one farm attack per day in SA since President Jacob Zuma's state of the nation address on February 10, the Christian Democratic Party (CDP) said.

"The latest farm murder – that of Alberto Cota near Stellenbosch- brings the tally to at least five farm murders since President Jacob Zuma claimed a reduction in certain categories of crime during his State of the Nation address," said CDP leader Reverend Theunis Botha.

"Some farm attacks have taken place in the Free State and Mpumalanga, in one case the victim is in a critical condition," he said referring to the attack on a Free State farmer by three men on Saturday morning in which the farmer was shot in the head and his bakkie stolen.

"Periodic condemnations by the ANC simply do not cut it especially when the ANC insists on its ‘right’ to sing songs like ‘kill the farmer'.

  1. This is an ambitious project. The challenge lies in being able to decipher what is really topical in the yellow press, as opposed to realy national newsworthy. 'Farm deaths', synonymous with white farmers should be juxtaposed with workers' working conditions and plights of deprivation and exploitation. A South Africa project should really scour meaningful national endeavours that occur daily below the sensationalist radar screen of the tabloids.News ahould not necessarily be confined to the press, or Joburg dailies - other provinces and media like community radio stations pick up a lot of sustainable good work by committed comunity workers. If this is to be enduringly sustainable, make it balanced and focus on long term enduring projects without necessarily sugar-coating the less appealing elements of our society.Good luck - looking forward to more visual delectation!
