26th February 2011

Day off from work, very relaxing, went to another school open day and then chilled in the afternoon, nice contrast to the hectic week. Todays story has some irony to it after the body parts movie advertising story earlier in the week. I can't believe its nearly March already, nearly two months down, I must say this project is more intense than I imagined it would be.  There is such a sense of achievement every day as the works grow in size and also as my style develops into where I believe it should be.

Todays Story:

New Kidney scandal

Joburg's Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital and Netcare's Garden City Clinic hosted 140 illegal kidney transplant operations.
Cape Town's Chris Barnard Memorial Hospital performed a further 80. In Durban, doctors at Netcare's St Augustine's hospital performed 109.
But only the Durban doctors face criminal charges. Yesterday leading Durban vascular surgeon Professor John Robbs blew the lid right off the scandal.

  2. The same thing is happeing in India in a large scale.
Why so many 'bad' kidneys; is it in the water.... or what.

  3. "Where are all the kidney's going"?...sounds like the first line of a song. But seriously who knows, maybe that is where the story should be heading next? Perhaps it is more contaminated water, I think human organs have always been in demand on the black market, but it does seem kidneys are more in demand than other organs.
