The hero cop was not on duty. But driving in his car, Mark Ishlove heard the call for back-up from an unfolding crime scene in Northcliff, and the reservist immediately responded.
Four years ago, Ishlove was hailed as a hero when he foiled a hijacking at Northcliff’s Fir Drive Centre. In that incident, gynaecologist Elmarie Wypkema was driving her Porsche when she was attacked. Ishlove, who had been at an Italian restaurant 20m away, shot the hijacker as the culprit pointed a gun at Wypkema’s head
