Woman leaps to her death
A woman jumped to her death from the ninth floor of Charlotte Maxeke hospital in Joburg on Tuesday morning, officials said.
“The patient early this morning went to the loo and allegedly committed suicide,” said Gauteng health spokesman Simon Zwane. “The police are investigating how it happened and the department will also investigate.”
He said the 53-year-old woman had surgery at the hospital about three weeks ago and had been discharged but was re-admitted on Friday.
“She was brought back by the doctors because she complained of pain,” said Zwane.
DA Gauteng health spokesman Jack Bloom said it was a tragic event and expressed his condolences to her family.
“We need to know whether all possible safeguards to prevent this were in place,” said Bloom
