Limpopo's lecherous lecturers
The University of Limpopo has been rocked by claims that lecturers are offering female students marks in exchange for sex.
The revelations surfaced during a probe into the institution by a panel of senior academics appointed by the Council on Higher Education.Students told panel members - who interviewed 337 people, including members of the council and vice-chancellor Professor Mahlo Mokgalong - of the "prevalence and pervasiveness of sexual harassment and sexist behaviour" on campus.
In its report, the panel said it was particularly worrying that cases of "sex for marks" might be taking place, with lecturers victimising female students who refused them sexual favours.
It warned that the situation was unacceptable and recommended that the allegations be investigated urgently.
