Woman knocked trying to help dog The Cape Times newspaper reported on Friday that Colette Teale, 60, the founder of the Karoo Animal Welfare Protection Society, broke both of her hips and possibly damaged her spine in the accident near the Du Toits Kloof tunnel outside Paarl on Wednesday.
"They (Teale and her husband Percy) had just dropped a dog at its new home," Teale's colleague, Lola Cox, told the newspaper.
"On the way back she saw a dog standing on a traffic island in the middle of the road.
"They wanted to help it so they stopped and she got out of the car. That's when a car hit her."
