A Free State man has been arrested for the death of a 60-year-old woman who was assaulted apparently because she made too much noise while walking past his house, police said on Monday.
Free State police spokeswoman Colonel Thandi Mbambo said the Odendaalsrus man, 46, was arrested after the woman died in hospital on Sunday morning.
Five people, two men and three women, walked past the man’s house in Vermaak Street in Odendaalsrus around 9.30pm on Friday on the way to their residences at the farm Phillipi in the same district.
It was alleged that the owner of the house accused them of being too noisy and started to attack the group.
“He allegedly hit one of the men with a torch on the head and all five ran away,” said Mbambo.
The man ran after them, caught up with one of the women, and allegedly hit her in the face with some object. The woman fell to the ground while the rest of the group ran away.
