31st May

Last day of May, wow 5 months into the project.

A grade 9 pupil at the Bechet Secondary School in Sydenham, Durban, was found lying unconscious on the floor of a classroom on Monday after he was allegedly beaten up by a Grade 11 pupil.
A distraught June Edwardes told The Mercury that her 16-year-old son, Kurt, was so badly beaten that he was “frothing at the mouth” and had lost consciousness.
Speaking from the trauma unit at Addington Hospital, she said she was told that a group of pupils walked into the classroom where Kurt was seated near the window, and in the absence of a teacher, the “ring leader” pushed him over and began kicking his head as he lay on the floor.
“It was at that point that Kurt began frothing at the mouth and lost consciousness before his attacker was subdued by a staff member.”
Her son was then carried into another classroom, where she later found him.
A Grade 9 pupil who saw the assault confirmed this version of events. The pupil’s mother asked that her daughter’s name not be published for fear of victimisation.
