Women called ‘lazy beauty queens’
Durban's police dog unit is plagued by chauvinism, according to female police officers in the unit, the Times reported on Wednesday.
Seven policewomen were requesting transfers out of the unit due to “bullying” from their male colleagues.
This began when a male officer allegedly shot one of his female colleagues with a pellet gun.
Three of the women, who asked not to be named, said the men called them “lazy beauty queens”.
They claimed dogs had been taken from them and given to male officers.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Vincent Mdunge said the allegations had prompted an internal investigation.
